Atletico Madrid’s comfortable 2-0 victory over Valencia

Memphis Depay and Samuel Lino both scored goals as Atletico Madrid defeated Valencia 2-0 at home on Sunday. Diego Simeone's team shot up to third position in the La Liga rankings after this victory. If Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili hadn't stopped many scoring efforts before Lino broke the deadlock with a low shot deep into first-half stoppage time, Atletico may have won by a more decisive margin.

The home team continued to dominate the second half and increased their lead in the 57th minute when Depay scored with a diving header after a cross from Nahuel Molina. Atletico moved up to third position in the rankings with this win, sharing 44 points with Barcelona but leading them on goal differential. Real Madrid is now in second place with 54 points, one point behind surprise leaders Girona despite Girona having played one more game.
