Barcelona tumbled to a 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad

Prior to receiving their trophy in front of a full Camp Nou crowd on Saturday, the newly crowned La Liga champions Barcelona were defeated 2-1 by Real Sociedad. In order to maintain their position in fourth place and maintain a five-point lead over fifth-place Villarreal in the race for Champions League qualifying, the visitors scored goals from Mikel Merino and Alexander Sorloth. Earlier, Gerard Moreno's injury-time goal gave Villarreal a 2-1 victory over Girona.

Barcelona, who won the championship last weekend with a crushing 4-2 victory against Catalan rivals Espanyol, and were given a guard of honour before the game, saw Robert Lewandowski bring one back for them late in the game. Despite already having secured the championship, Xavi started a strong Barcelona lineup, but they quickly fell behind and were unable to recover.
