Barcelona’s squad is overrun by midfielders so much so that Barça’s breakthrough midfielder of the 2019-20 campaign was benched last season almost entirely. Under Ronald Koeman, Carles Alena did not get enough game time and there were even talks of sending him on a loan spell at the start of the campaign. Since a loan deal could not be worked out earlier after spending the majority of his time on the bench, the Catalan midfielder was sent on a loan spell at Getafe in the winter window.
At Getafe, he scored twice and set up two goals more in 15 starts for the club. Now Barcelona is in the market looking for yet another midfielder, leaving no choice for the Catalan midfielder to leave his boyhood club. La Liga’s Getafe and Valencia and Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers have expressed interest in the top-class midfield prospect who has spent over 16 years at the club.
