Bayern unstoppable in second half end 5-2 over Mainz

Bayern Munich struggled to score in the first half after returning from the two-week Christmas break but came back from behind to score five goals in the second to show their dominant side to Mainz in Munich. The seven-goal match turned from an uneventful event to a thrilling one in a matter of minutes as Bayern Munich defeated second-from-bottom Mainz by 5-2, to sit at the top of the Bundesliga table with 33 points garnered from 14 games. RB Leipzig remained disappointed even after winning against VfB Stuttgart by 1-0 as they remained two points behind the leaders.

Jonathan Burkardt and Alexander Hack took Mainz ahead in the first half until, midfielder Joshua Kimmich kicked Bayern in a different gear by scoring their first goal, five minutes later Leroy Sane leveled the score, Niklas Süle kicked in the lead in the 70th minute which was further increased by Robert Lewandowski who scored twice to take his tally to 22 goals across the competition.
