Borussia Dortmund loses to Borussia Monchengladbach 0-1

With a goal from Denis Zakaria, hosts Borussia Monchengladbach upset 10-man Borussia Dortmund 1-0 on Saturday, snapping their opponents' three-game winning streak in the Bundesliga. Dortmund, who were missing captain Marco Reus and top striker Erling Haaland due to injury, lost their second game of the season, falling to fourth place with 12 points, four behind leaders Bayern Munich, as Gladbach won their second game in a row.

Haaland, who has 47 goals in 48 league outings for Dortmund, was already ruled out after suffering an injury during the final training session. After rushing into the box and earning a lucky deflection to preserve control, Zakaria scored the game's first goal in the 37th minute. Things became much worse for Dortmund, who face Sporting in the Champions League next week when Mahmoud Dahoud was sent off after a second booking, putting his team on the back foot and leaving defender Mats Hummels seething.
