Brighton come from behind to claim victory over Brentford 2-1

After Jan Paul van Hecke fouled Vitaly Janelt in the 27th minute, Mbeumo coolly tapped home a penalty to give the Bees the lead against the flow of play. However, Brighton was only down for four minutes following Pascal Gross's powerful drive past Mark Flekken, and Mbeumo's departure due to a leg injury soon after. The hosts won just their second Premier League game in nine games when Hinshelwood, 18, came to the fore early in the second half by clearing Yoane Wissa's cross off the line and then headed home Gross's deep cross.

Due to the outcome, Brighton became the first side since Wolves in the 1934–1935 season to score and give up in all 15 of their first-round games in the top tier. One of three changes to the squad that fell short 3-2 against Chelsea on Sunday, Kaoru Mitoma, was brisk right away, making a few strong dashes into Brentford territory after his return.
