Mainz drew up 1-1 against Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Bundesliga fixture. Silvan Widmer grabbed the leveler for the team for the home draw as Moenchengladbach is flying high in Germany’s top-flight tournament. Widmer shot into the net with his weaker left foot and put it past keeper Yann Sommer high into the net at the 76th minute.
It was a well-deserved equalizer for Mainz as they dominated the second half to win the match. Sommer had to deny Lee Jae Sung two times and once Jonathan Burkhardt before Widmer put one past him. Gladbach looked dangerous in the first half, with the Florian Neuhaus' 39th-minute rebound but they remained inconsistent and finished ninth and missed the opportunity to climb into fifth place.
