In the Premier League on Sunday, Crystal Palace defeated West Ham 5-2, crushing their hopes of making it to Europe the next season with four goals in the opening thirty-one minutes of play. Michael Olise's header gave Palace, who had not previously scored more than three goals in a league game this season, the early lead. Eberechi Eze then made it 2-0 with a bicycle kick. Emerson made things worse for West Ham by turning the ball into his own net, and Jean-Philippe Mateta added another goal to make it four.
Before halftime, Michail Antonio managed to pull one back for the visitors, but Mateta scored his second goal in the 64th minute to restore the four-goal lead. Tyrick Mitchell's back ball went past Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson's foot and into the hosts' net, just as it appeared to be the cherry on top of a convincing win.
