DR Congo's human statue becomes AFCON's most famous fan

Kuka, a famously colorful Congolese fan, has earned fame for standing completely immobile during matches, his right arm raised and outstretched open palm toward the sky. This distinctive pose mimics a statue of Patrice Lumumba, the assassinated independence leader whose death remains a dark chapter in Belgian-Congolese history.

Accompanied by hundreds of government-sponsored supporters in Rabat, Kuka recently stood and watched the Leopards lose to Algeria late in extra time. Although he avoided the media spotlight, fellow fans expressed immense pride in his tribute. Jered Bitobo, a supporter group spokesman, explained that amidst the ongoing violent conflict in eastern DR Congo involving Rwandan-backed rebels, Kuka’s open palm symbolizes a desperate plea for peace.

Originally starting this routine with AS Vita Club, Kuka has become a powerful symbol. His silent, statue-like stance honors a national hero while simultaneously sending a vital message about his country's urgent need for stability and hope.
