Renard weighs Saudi exit as pressure builds after costly defeats

Hervé Renard’s future as Saudi Arabia coach has become increasingly uncertain, with the Frenchman seriously considering stepping down amid mounting pressure. The scrutiny follows a damaging run of results, highlighted by a 4–0 loss to Egypt and a 2–1 defeat to Serbia during the March camp. French reports suggest Renard no longer feels aligned with the federation’s project and remains unconvinced by several members of the current squad.

His uncertain status has drawn attention from multiple African national teams, with Ghana emerging as a particularly keen suitor. Renard’s strong track record on the continent, most notably his successful spells with Zambia and Ivory Coast, makes him an attractive option. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, are preparing for the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Spain, Uruguay and Cape Verde in Group H. Whether Renard will lead them into the tournament is now unclear as he evaluates his position amid criticism and declining performances.
