Harry Kane will be out for a "indefinite period" due to a calf injury he sustained during Bayern Munich's Champions League match against Celtic, the team confirmed in a statement.
During Tuesday night's 1-1 draw with the Scottish champions, the England captain, who has been playing well since moving to Bavaria in the summer, was substituted out at halftime.
Kane had been carrying a knock to his calf prior to the game, which has since grown into a haematoma, the club said in a statement.
This setback comes at a critical moment for the England national team, whose manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to announce his first squad next month, as well as Bayern Munich, who are currently in a close race for the Bundesliga title.
Kane's participation in future games is uncertain, he must "cut back over the coming days" in order to allow for a proper recovery.
