Bayer Leverkusen conceded late in the match against Freiburg as substitute Kevin Schade smashed one with six minutes left on the clock to give the visitors a winner. Freiburg leapfrogged over hosts on the table to secure third place for themselves before heading into the winter break.
Leverkusen put on a lazy show of defending in the Bundesliga match as Ermedin Demirovic was able to cross easily and Schade then headed the goal in past goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky at the near post. Vincenzo Grifo had opened the score first and later Charles Aranguiz had leveled the score by successfully converting a penalty for Leverkusen in the first-half injury time. Freiburg is still five points away from Borussia Dortmund and 14 away from Bayern Munich.
