Gareth Southgate believes he will lead the team to the World Cup

Despite a five-game losing streak that resulted in the squad being demoted from the top division of the Nations League, England manager Gareth Southgate insists he is the ideal choice to take his nation to the World Cup. Due to his semi-final World Cup appearance in 2018 and second-place result in the European Championship last summer, Southgate has established a solid reputation. However, following Friday's 1-0 loss to Italy, he received jeers from the visiting crowd in Milan.

England has played Hungary, Italy, and Germany five times in Nations League games without scoring even a single goal from open play. However, Southgate backed his team as they go through a unique World Cup training. There will be no time for pre-tournament friendlies since the last round of Premier League games will take place just eight days before England's first encounter in Qatar.
