Injury-hit Thomas Lemar to remain at Atletico Madrid

The France international has played just 28 minutes of football in all competitions across just two appearances.

The winger, who has failed to ever justify his big-money move from AS Monaco in 2018, has suffered various muscle injuries, keeping him sidelined and restricting his ability to return to full form and fitness. There have been suggestions in Spain that Atletico Madrid are looking to offload Lemar, given his injury issues, with a departure in the upcoming January transfer window touted.

However, L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi has dismissed talk of a departure for the Frenchman, who has 27 caps and four goals for his national team. Tanzi understands that Lemar is expected to stay with the La Liga giants this winter, with the hope of beating the injury issues that have so far ruined his campaign. His deal at Atletico Madrid runs until June 2027.
