Inter is expected to release one of the two defensive mainstays

At the end of the 2024–2025 season, reigning Serie A winners Inter want to completely restructure their defense lineup. One of Francesco Acerbi or Stefan de Vrij is expected to leave Giuseppe Meazza come summertime.

The latter, who moved to Inter from his home in Argentina in the summer, has not yet made his Nerazzurri debut in a competitive game. Yann Bisseck is poised to advance in his career and take on a bigger part in Simone Inzaghi's setup. Acerbi, who turns 37 in February, is the front-runner to depart Inter. De Vrij has not yet initiated negotiations with the club about a contract renewal, though, and his deal with Meazza expires in June 2025. Inzaghi doesn't want to lose continuity, thus one of the two will most likely remain. De Vrij is 32 years old, thus his chances of signing a new contract are stronger than Acerbi's.
