In the Derby d'Italia at the San Siro, Inter Milan defeated championship rival Juventus 1-0 to go four points clear atop Serie A. Just before halftime, Federico Gatti, a defender for Juventus, misdirected a cross into his own net, giving the Nerazzurri the lead.
Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny also made a superb late save from Inter replacement Marko Arnautovic giving the team a fighting chance to get back in the game. But ultimately Gatti’s goal heaped more misery on Juventus as they lost the chance to cut the lead to the top. In another match, Atalanta defeated Lazio 3-1 at the Gewiss Stadium to solidify their spot in the top four. Charles De Ketelaere scored twice. Napoli overcame a 2-1 deficit to defeat Verona and get back into the top six. Salernitana, the bottom side, managed a goalless draw at Torino but are still five points outside of safety.
