The Italian football championship will now be resolved with an extra game whenever, as of next season, two teams finish the competition equal in points.
If this match results in a tie, the scepter will be decided by kicks from the penalty mark.
In the event that three or more clubs are equal at the top of the classification, a 'ranking' will be carried out taking into account the direct confrontations and the differences in goals: the two best, will play that extra game. The 'play-off' formula for the title had already been implemented in Serie A, but it was only applied once, in 1964, when Bologna beat Inter in Rome, thus winning their seventh and final title of champion.
The federation president has more than once expressed the desire to see the title decided through a 'play-off' system.
