Asante Kotoko head coach Zito has resigned following the club’s elimination from the MTN FA Cup by Aduana FC on penalties. Consequently, assistant coach Prince Yaw Owusu will take temporary charge, assisted by Mohammed Hamza Obeng, ahead of this weekend’s crucial Super Clash against Hearts of Oak.
Zito, who replaced Prosper Narteh Ogum in April 2025 and won the FA Cup last season, faced mounting pressure with Kotoko trailing league leaders Medeama by eight points. Despite holding a contract until 2027, he stepped down after recording 17 wins, 10 draws, and 10 losses in 39 games.
Spokesperson Sarfo Duku stated the club intended to keep Zito until the season concluded, but the coach chose to leave, citing disappointment with player performance. While Zito acknowledged the poor results, he remains optimistic about the club's future. Kotoko must now regroup quickly to revive their fading title hopes against their rivals this Sunday.
