Late Drama Seals 3-2 Victory Over Lymers

A 3-2 victory over Lymers with our winning goal coming in injury time, but it must be said, not one of our greatest performances. However, a win’s a win, and as has been said countless time over the years, it is the mark of a good side that wins when not playing at their best!

It was our opponents who made the best start to the game, and we had Shemor Browne to thank for an extraordinary save to prevent them taking the lead early on in proceedings. The Lymers striker found himself clean through on goal, Shemor was outside of his box but somehow managed to save the shot without using his hands, fantastic goalkeeping!

That early let off seemed to inspire the lads and on 6 minutes we took the lead with our first chance of the game when Kashawn Senior swept home from just inside the box courtesy of a pass by Tre Gumbs. Unfortunately, our lead was short-lived because only two minutes later, Lymers got themselves back on level terms through a very well taken goal from Jabari Williams!

The remainder of the first period saw us creating a few chances with the best of them falling to Tre who pushed his effort wide of the far post following a great cross from the left by Kemari Gumbs. The final action of the half saw Lymers having appeals turned down for a penalty on 42 minutes which meant the scores remained at 1-1 as the referee blew his whistle for the half time break.

The opening minutes of the second half saw Leon Whyle going close with a 30-yard pile driver which was followed shortly after by Kemari Gumbs hitting the side netting from a tight angle. Lymers then began to get more of the ball and in the 62nd minute their pressure told when Joel Orosco was adjudged to have committed a foul in our area which saw our opponents being awarded a penalty. Jabari Williams stepped up and blasted the ball into the net to give Shemor no chance of saving!

We now had to roll up our sleeves to get back into the game, but as the game wore on it looked like we would be tasting our first defeat of the season! However, in the 83rd minute, Jordan Deans floated in a delightful corner from the right which was met by the head of Leon with the ball going into the roof of the net! 2-2 and game on!

With the game drifting towards the end, it looked as if we had would have to settle for a point, but then we were gifted the lead through a comical own goal in the 90th minute! Our left-back, Nathaniel Gumbs did well to intercept a pass on the halfway line, Nat drove forward and crossed the ball into the box with the Lymers defender Sedu Bradshaw mistiming his header which saw the ball looping over the goalkeeper and into the net! A fortuitous goal, but it was enough to see us claim all three points and we now have a semi-final to look forward to against Roaring Lions in a few days’ time.
