Luka Jovic gave Serbia a late equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Slovenia on Thursday, ensuring that both sides will play in the round of 16 of the 2024 European Championship. After Zan Karnicnik gave Slovenia the lead in the second half, they appeared to be set for their first-ever victory at the event. However, Jovic headed in a corner in the fifth minute of stoppage time to tie the score for Serbia.
"We're not giving up; the outcome is a reward for having faith. The game was finished for many, but not for us," Serbian coach Dragan Stojkovic remarked. Serbia has one point ahead of their last sectional encounter against Denmark, while Slovenia has two points from their first two games in Group C heading into their meeting against England on Tuesday. Coach Matjaz Kek of Slovenia remarked, "I think karma will do its part for this team. Sport in general and football in particular can be cruel."
