Lyon eked out an ugly 1-0 victory

Lyon Moussa Dembele scored a penalty in the 15th minute to give Lyon a 1-0 win against struggling Saint-Etienne. The 124th derby between the fierce rivals revealed little about Lyon's ability to force their way into European contention or Saint-ability Etienne's to escape the bottom of the Ligue 1 standings. Lyon moved up to the tenth place, six points behind third-placed Marseille, ahead of the rest of the weekend's games.

Saint-sixth Etienne's consecutive loss dropped them six points short of safety. Lyon will face tougher tests in the coming week, as they face Marseille, Monaco, Nice, Lens, and Lille, all of whom are ranked higher than them. Due to health concerns, the derby was played in front of only 5,000 fans in a stadium that can house 60,000.
