Manchester City could be expelled from Premier League

The charges against the reigning English champions relate to financial infringements on revenue, remuneration of coaches and players, UEFA regulations, and other illicitly obtained profits. In a statement, the Premier League reveals that the alleged violations were committed in nine different seasons, starting in September of the 2009/19 season until the 2017/18 season and will now be referred to an independent commission.

Between the dates mentioned, Manchester City won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups.

In February 2020, the club was banned from the Champions League and fined £25m after having seriously misled UEFA, European football's governing body, and violated the rules of financial fair play.

The situation that City is now facing may not only lead to the deduction of points, but also to their own expulsion from the competition, as reported by the English press.
