Marseille loses 3-1 to Nice

Second-place When Marseille lost 3-1 to Nice at home on Sunday, it ended its undefeated streak and fell eight points behind Paris Saint-Germain, who is now leading the French league. Due to its first league loss in ten games, Marseille is currently just ahead of Lens in third place on goal differential, with in-form Monaco now two points behind them in fourth. A third-place finish guarantees entry into the Champions League qualification stages the following year.

Fans of Marseille received their first glimpse of the forward Vitinha, a club record acquisition who signed from Braga in Portugal for $34.5 million. Terem Moffi, who joined from Lorient, where he scored 12 goals this season, made his debut for eighth-place Nice. In a first half in which Nice's stronger pressing game worried Marseille and prevented it from consistently getting the ball to playmaker Dimitri Payet, neither made much of an impact.
