Marcelino arrived late in the summer, which had knock-on effects on the rest of OM’s pre-season preparations, from which the club failed to recover. As a result, the club are looking to name Jean-Louis Gasset’s replacement before the end of the month, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Gasset was never expected to extend his interim stay at the Vélodrome. AEK Athens manager Matias Almeyda is a name now being considered for the vacant role at Marseille, with club president Pablo Longoria a particular fan of the Argentine coach, who has previously managed at San Jose and River Plate.
FC Porto’s Sergio Conceiçao is another target and whilst Longoria has spoken with the former FC Nantes manager, it is thought that he is targeting a bigger job. According to L’Équipe, he is looking to manage a team capable of winning the UEFA Champions League.
