Salernitana of Serie A confirmed on Friday that Mexico's Guillermo Ochoa has joined on a free transfer from Club America with a deal that runs through June 2023. Ochoa's Liga MX team America, where he had been playing since 2019, wished the 37-year-old Mexico captain farewell on Tuesday by wishing him luck in his upcoming adventure in Europe. The player will wear the number 13 jersey and is contracted to the team through June 30, 2023, with an option to extend, according to a statement from Salernitana. After Salernitana revealed that goalkeeper Luigi Sepe had a calf injury, the signing was made.
In Mexico's World Cup debut against Poland last month, Ochoa saved a Robert Lewandowski penalty to keep the score at 0-0. Mexico defeated Saudi Arabia in their final match, however, they were unable to advance from the group stage after falling to the eventual champion Argentina.
