Mumbai Indians turn to Luke Williams for WPL revival

Mumbai Indians have appointed Luke Williams as head coach of their women’s team ahead of the 2027 Women’s Premier League, replacing Lisa Keightley after just one season. Williams, forty‑six, brings extensive experience, having guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the 2024 WPL title and led the Adelaide Strikers to multiple deep runs, including a maiden WBBL championship in 2022‑23. He also contributed to Southern Brave’s successful 2023 Women’s Hundred campaign and has served as assistant coach of England Women since 2025.

His task now is to revive a two‑time WPL champion that struggled last season, winning only three matches and finishing fourth under Harmanpreet Kaur. Williams said he is excited to join a “respected and successful organisation” and aims to build an energetic, winning brand of cricket. MI owner Nita Ambani praised his track record and commitment to player development, expressing confidence that Williams and Kaur can lead the team into a new, ambitious chapter.
