Manager Louis Van Gaal, 71, has officially ended his third spell as Netherlands boss, after announcing that he was not going to continue after the Qatar World Cup to treat his prostate cancer.
His replacement, announced months ago by the Federation, is Ronaldo Koeman, who was Netherlands coach between 2018 and 2020, and will take over the reins of the national side again from the 1st January.
Van Gaal announced last April that he was going through treatment to get over an agressive prostate cancer and had announced that he would not continue after the World Cup. Once The Netherlands' elimination to Argentina was confirmed, it was reaffirmed.
"I'm not going to stay with the national side because it was only for this period. This was my last game. I've been a part of 20 games and I didn't lose any", he said at the time.
