Newcastle United is reportedly eyeing Fiorentina star Nico Gonzalez as they prepare for the potential departure of Miguel Almiron. The 26-year-old winger is regarded as one of the top talents in Serie A, having scored 16 goals and provided five assists across all competitions last season. Gonzalez also showcased his abilities during the Copa America, playing a crucial role for Argentina, including in the final victory over Colombia.
Last summer, Brentford had a €40 million (approximately £34 million) bid for Gonzalez turned down, but the prospect of joining Newcastle, a club aiming for a top-six finish this season, may be more enticing. With Almiron linked to a move to Saudi Arabia, Newcastle is open to selling the 30-year-old and believes they can recoup around £30 million from his sale. The funds will likely be reinvested in acquiring Gonzalez as his replacement, making this a timely move for the Magpies.
