Leipzig have signed Timo Werner from Chelsea on a permanent deal, the clubs announced on Tuesday.
The 26 year-old striker released a statement just after 18:00 CEST which confirmed that Werner was leaving the West Londoners. He wrote a message to thank the supporters for his two years at the club and backing him "in good and in challenging times!"
The message received plenty of comments including one of Leipzig tweeting an eyes emoji, hinting that they might be Werner's new club. Chelsea and Leipzig both confirmed the transfer. "The forward is heading back to the club where he enjoyed four successful years before moving to west London, departing Stamford Bridge for his homeland as a European and world champion. The Champions League triumph represents the highlight of his time with the Blues and he played his part in our success during his first season in England," the statement underlined.
