Phil Foden close to signing new Manchester City contract

The midfielder’s current contract expires in the summer of 2024 but City are moving to tie him down to fresh terms. It is understood that while a new deal has not been finalised as of yet, there are not thought to be any big barriers to an agreement.

Stockport-born Foden, who came through the academy at City and supported the club from childhood, has starred for Pep Guardiola’s side since breaking through to the first team. He made his debut in November 2017 against Feyenoord in the Champions League.

He made 28 appearances last season as City won the Premier League and has scored two goals in six games so far this campaign.

The 21-year-old is also a regular for England and has picked up 10 senior caps since his debut in 2020. He was part of the side that reached the Euro 2020 final.
