Real Madrid defeated Mallorca 1-0 on Wednesday night, thanks in large part to a late goal from Antonio Rudiger, while regular player Jude Bellingham was out for extended stretches of the match. The home team struggled for lengthy periods of the match and appeared unlikely to score, but a set-piece goal sealed a crucial victory.

With his effort just missing the post after latching onto a cross from Luka Modric, the returning Vinicius Jr. enjoyed the first significant opportunity of the match. Shortly after, the Brazilian saw another attempt turned down, capping a rather disappointing first half for Los Blancos. With a little of manoeuvring, Antonio Sanchez of Mallorca managed to deflect the ball off the underside of the bar and somehow away from goal. Samu Costa created an opportunity as well, firing a shot off the base of the post.
