Roma’s new manager Jose Mourinho wants to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer after the Serie A club held the 10th best defensive record in the league last season with a 7th place. Mourinho has set his eye on Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka, as they wish to strengthen the defensive midfield position but Arsenal had rejected the 15 million euros bid by the Italians.
Xhaka featured 31 times in the Premier League for Mikel Arteta in the 2020-21 season. Roma would need to dig deeper in their pockets to persuade Arsenal to sell the player. The I Giallorossi are also interested in Manchester City’s Nathan Ake who joined Citizens for 40 million pounds in 2020 itself. Though after picking up an injury he could also manage 10 Premier League appearances.
