Real Sociedad cements their place in the Europa League spot by beating Elche by 2-0 on the Spanish League to gain three more points. Sociedad was too strong for 10-men Elche to overthrow. Aritz Elustondo first broke the deadlock and put the hosts ahead in the 72nd minute later Mikel Oyarzabal scored in the stoppage time to increase the lead to 2-0 and ensure an easy win over Elche.
Sociedad is now fifth on the table and enjoys a four-point lead over sixth-placed Villarreal now and a five-point lead over Real Betis who are seventh on the table with just a few more games left in the league. While Villarreal would host Celta Vigo as well to close in on Sociedad while Betis would take on Granada next. Raul Guti was sent off in the 11th minute itself leaving Elche one man down for the majority of the match. The loss could be heavy for Elche who are inched closer to relegation.
