Timo Werner’s first goal in 15 Premier League games led Chelsea returning back to the top four as the Blues saw off Newcastle 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Tammy Abraham had a severe ankle injury while Olivier Giroud found the net with Chelsea coasting past a disturbingly limited Newcastle.
Werner’s first league strike since November 7 indicated Germany’s hitman top-flight goal drought which didn’t last more than 1,000 minutes. New Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is of the opinion that Werner’s shattered confidence could be restored with a goal.
West Londoners are expected to be hopeful for the £53million man to rediscover top form. Chelsea’s win had pushed West Ham down to fifth and defending champions Liverpool to sixth position. New manager Tuchel has already witnessed four straight league wins but the Blues have much tougher top-flight tests coming up.
