Tottenham’s relegation risks put Xavi Simons’ future in trouble

Xavi Simons’ stay at Tottenham Hotspur could prove surprisingly short, with reports suggesting the Dutch midfielder may leave if the club’s relegation fears materialise. Simons arrived from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2025 for around £51 million, beating competition from several European sides, including Chelsea. Spurs had hoped the 22‑year‑old would become a central creative force, but the season has unravelled around him.

Tottenham’s poor form has dragged them dangerously close to the drop zone, highlighted by a damaging 3–1 home defeat to Crystal Palace. In such a tense context, Simons’ performances have been scrutinised, and speculation is growing that he could be among the first to depart should the club fall into the Championship.

Described as a “last in, first out” scenario, Spurs may be forced to offload recent big‑money signings to rebalance finances. With the summer window approaching and the team’s position still precarious, Simons’ future is set to become a major storyline.
