The UEFA investigation into the 'Negreira case' is about to come to an end. The European authorities are contemplating the final details of the case before they release their final verdict regarding the payments Barcelona made to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees, between 2001 and 2018.
According to reports from 'ABC' on Thursday, those investigating the case believe the Catalan side should be sanctioned, with a one-year ban from tournaments organised by UEFA, although the conclusion does not yet appear to be official.
The same outlet reported that Aleksander Ceferin, the president of UEFA, is now debating whether to open a case and wait for the resolution of the Spanish justice system or to apply the investigators' recommendation and leave the club out of Europe for a year.
