DaRon Holmes II, the No. 22 overall selection by the Denver Nuggets, tore his right Achilles tendon on Friday during an NBA Summer League matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to reports. The Phoenix Suns traded Holmes to the Nuggets in exchange for Ryan Dunn, the No. 56 pick, two future second-round selections, and the No. 28 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Holmes II played 26 minutes in the game, scoring 11 points and grabbing seven rebounds, before ripping his Achilles tendon in the second half against the Clippers. He is now anticipated to miss the 2024–2025 season, which is considered a devastating setback for one of the Nuggets' bright young players. During his three years of collegiate tenure at Dayton, Holmes II made 102 appearances for the Flyers, starting all of them. He averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 0.9 steals in 32.5 minutes per game as a junior in his last year at Dayton.
