As interest wanes, Russell Westbrook's NBA future is uncertain
With Kevin Durant's shooting prowess and a squad full of young, athletic players, the Houston Rockets look poised to push the leading club into contention as the 2025–26 NBA season gets underway. One of the Rockets' former stars, explosive guard Russell Westbrook, is clearly reaching the end of his career, though, as training camp draws closer and he is still unsigned and mostly untargeted.
Despite reports linking Westbrook to a number of clubs this summer, there doesn't appear to be much interest in securing his place on a squad over the many veteran guards still available, and he might not even have a chance until after the season begins. Although the Sacramento Kings have expressed interest, they would ultimately be dissuaded from making such a deal given their sign-and-trade for Dennis Schroder and the large number of ball-needy players on their roster.
