Returning home following a defeat in the second part of a back-to-back, the San Antonio Spurs hoped to carry some winning momentum into the New Year, but that proved difficult against a club as loaded as the Boston Celtics before the third quarter was even over.
Devin Vassell led the way in scoring with 22 points on 9-15 shooting, but it wasn't enough to propel the Spurs' attack to greater success. Boston's winning effort was led by four key players. Jason Tatum ended with a team-high 25 points, while Jaylen Brown finished with 24. Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White both scored 31 points to push the team towards the finish line. The Celtics outplayed their opponents in every aspect of the contest winning 134-101 on the road. With the setback, the Spurs drop to 5-27 on the season, their second consecutive defeat, and begin the New Year with a loss.
