Boston Celtics basketball returned on Sunday afternoon. They defeated the Charlotte Hornets 134-93 in their preseason opener. The first quarter of play was fairly even between Boston and Charlotte, but the Celtics took control in the second quarter, winning by 17 points. Charlotte was unable to recover for the remainder of the contest. Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 24 points, five rebounds, and eight assists on 8-for-11 shooting from the field and 3-for-5 from deep. Brown, who also scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds, was firing on all cylinders as his co-star, Jayson Tatum, struggled to find his rhythm. Tatum, who also scored six points and grabbed three rebounds, played well, as well as Brown. He was also a key player for Boston, as Brogdon excelled in the passing game. He tallied nine assists and five rebounds, but he led the way for Boston.
