Stephen Curry has agreed to a two‑year, $116 million extension that keeps him with Golden State through his 20th NBA season, including a player option for 2028‑29. The deal reflects a deliberate choice: after weighing multiple scenarios, Curry accepted a pay cut for greater roster flexibility, turning down a max extension worth up to $136.7 million.
His new structure drops next season’s salary to $55.7 million, then offers a $60.2 million option, creating roughly $10 million in additional cap space for the Warriors. With expiring deals for Jimmy Butler III and Draymond Green, plus limited guarantees for Kristaps Porzingis, the franchise could open between $38 and $55 million next summer.
Curry, who missed 39 games last season due to a knee issue, says he feels fully healthy and energized. The extension also makes him the first NBA player to surpass $600 million in career on‑court earnings, reaching $652 million.
