Derrick Rose announced his retirement

The 35-year-old point guard, who formerly played for the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks, shared a picture of himself on Instagram of himself clutching a newspaper with a love letter to basketball and sitting in front of a chess set. Rose declared that basketball had been his "first love" in the social media post announcing his retirement. with addition, Rose thanked every group of supporters with full-page ads that he placed in the cities where he had played for the local team: Chicago, New York, Detroit, Cleveland, Minneapolis, and Memphis.

This week, Rose's request to be released from the last year of his two-year deal was approved by the Memphis Grizzlies. In the 2010–11 season, he averaged 25 points and 7.7 assists per game as the Bulls advanced to the Eastern Conference finals, making him the youngest MVP in NBA history at the age of 22.
