Kawhi Leonard has taken an encouraging step towards returning to action after another injury setback, with the Toronto Raptors confirming that the forward has completed treatment to reduce swelling in his left knee and begun his comeback programme.
The Canadian franchise will provide a further update in one week, meaning Leonard cannot return before November 11, when Toronto face the Boston Celtics.
The 35-year-old has featured in just two regular-season games this campaign. Although scans ruled out structural damage, the knee problem has kept him sidelined. Leonard has previously endured several serious issues with his right knee, including surgeries involving his meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament.
Despite his limited appearances, he averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals.
This season marks his return to Toronto, where he won the franchise’s first NBA championship in 2019 before joining the Clippers.
