Lakers guard Gabe Vincent has officially been diagnosed with lower back stiffness and is scheduled to be re-evaluated in the coming days. This unfortunate injury will almost certainly keep him sidelined during the upcoming road trip against the Jazz, Clippers, and Suns, while also leaving his status significantly in doubt for the Christmas Day game against Houston.
Arriving as a free agent in 2023, Vincent had recently found consistency following last year's knee issues. He became a steady rotation piece, averaging 4.7 points and 1.4 assists in 21.5 minutes across 14 games, six as a starter. However, this represents his second prolonged stop of the season after missing 11 games earlier with an ankle sprain.
With Vincent sidelined and Austin Reaves also out with a calf problem, the staff must drastically increase minutes for Luka Dončić and Marcus Smart, while two-way prospect Nick Smith Jr. could finally find significant space.
