Cooper Flagg’s first NBA season has prompted striking parallels with LeBron James’s rookie impact, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. The reporter said Flagg “kept giving me rookie‑year LeBron flashbacks”, adding that James became a top‑five player by his second season and that Flagg may follow the same trajectory.

Selected first overall in the 2025 Draft, Flagg immediately became the centrepiece of a rebuilding Dallas Mavericks. At nineteen, he played seventy games as a starter, averaging 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.9 blocks, shooting 46.8 percent from the field. He led the team in scoring and defensive activity during a difficult 26‑56 campaign, which triggered sweeping organisational changes, including Masai Ujiri’s arrival as president.

Dallas built its summer around Flagg, retaining Kyrie Irving and adding Zaccharie Risacher and Santi Aldama. The comparison with LeBron concerns development: James exploded in year two, a leap Flagg could replicate if the roster evolves.
