Kawhi Leonard is set to miss several weeks after suffering swelling in his left knee, creating an early concern for the Toronto Raptors.
An MRI revealed no structural damage, but Leonard will undergo a treatment and rehabilitation programme before being reassessed in one week. The issue emerged during his pre-game warm-up ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Minnesota, forcing him to withdraw shortly before tip-off.
Leonard had averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 3.5 steals across his first two games with Toronto, although he shot only 32.4% from the field and 28.6% from three-point range. His absence now places greater responsibility on Scottie Barnes, who struggled against Minnesota, going 0-for-12 from the floor without scoring.
Leonard has a significant history of knee problems, including an ACL tear and meniscus injury in his right knee. This time, however, the left knee is affected, although structural damage has been ruled out.
Toronto will await next week’s assessment before determining his return timeline.
