The Dallas Mavericks are approaching a difficult roster decision, with Moussa Cissé potentially becoming the casualty of Dwight Powell’s expected return. According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the franchise is considering either waiving the young center or pursuing a consolidation trade to open a roster spot.
Cutting Cissé would be a surprising reversal after Dallas matched New York’s offer, securing his $2.2 million contract beyond October 1. However, Powell’s strong preseason performances and standing within the coaching staff have complicated the situation.
Cissé averaged 4.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks across 38 appearances last season, shooting 57.4% from the field. At 24, he remains a promising rim protector with room to develop.
Trading a player this close to opening night presents its own challenges, particularly after Dallas reshaped its roster over the summer.
