This decision, announced by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars, comes after the team's fourth consecutive loss.
Dumars stated the change was not solely based on the win-loss record, but on the team "losing the same way, over and over again." Top assistant coach James Borrego, a former head coach for the Charlotte Hornets, has been named the interim head coach.
Green's tenure with the Pelicans lasted over four seasons, during which he compiled a 150-190 record. He led the team to two playoff appearances, both ending in first-round exits. Green's time as head coach was often complicated by significant injuries to key players, most notably star forward Zion Williamson.
Team owner Gayle Benson supported the decision, stating her expectation is for the Pelicans to be a "winning team that competes for championships."
