Nikola Jokic secures the 2020-21 NBA MVP award

Denver Nuggets' center Nikola Jokic won the 2021 NBA MVP award on Wednesday and was even the first Nuggets player to earn the honor. He joined Dirk Nowitzki of Germany and Giannis Antetokounmpo of Greece to become the third player from Europe to take the award. In the end, he had 971 total points beating Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid in second place with a huge margin after Embiid got 586 points.

Jokic beat Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry Milwaukee Bucks forward Antetokounmpo and Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul for the award. This was his sixth season with the Nuggets and in the 72 games, he scored 26.4 points, 10.9 rebounds, career-high 8.4 assists, and 1.32 steals on average. Nuggets finished the season with 47-25 to finish third in the West Conference and are playing against Pheonix Suns in the second round of the playoffs.
