Utah Jazz Rudy Gobert won the 2021 Defensive player of the year award making it the third DPOY award of his career. The announcement was made on Wednesday before the Suns and Nuggets match. Gobert was competing with Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors for the award.
The Jazz’s rim-protector is now the fourth player in NBA history to lift the trophy thrice in his career and joins Dwight Howard, Ben Wallace and Dikembe Mutombo in the list. His season average was impressive with 14.3 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game and helped Jazz to first-placed finish in the regular season with their NBA best record of 52-20. Gobert was the 27th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and has been with Jazz ever since with career averages of 12.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks in 545 games.
